and Greta are coming forward and they're talking about climate change, they are talking about gun violence, and they're talking about these different issues that are impacting all of us and especially what's going to affect the future generations. There are hundreds and thousands of women and girls in all parts of the world who are standing up. Some of them we don't even know — their names would never be known — but they're changing their communities.TV vans v96 It took me a few years to realize this was a childish way to address the chasm that had opened up between myself and my brother, a hardworking, by-the-books conservative who thinks he’s oppressed as a white male, and my dad, a self-proclaimed patriot who adheres to the “pull yourself up by your own bootstraps” brand of personal fiscal responsibility. (The tension is palpable ONLY with these two. My mom voted for George W. Bush mainly because he’s a Christian, and she cares more about her weekly Bible study than national politics. My sister is an avowed lefty who became a vegan to help curb climate change.) vans v96 I do political science. So for me, we need to look at the statistics and look at the correlation and all those things. So we don't have data [on this]. But using intuition, what I have seen, even if you look at the example of terrorists like Taliban, who are mostly men, all of them are men. So there's this element of patriarchy and misogyny. But then [there’s] the tool and the message that they're delivering that through religion. Religion has a very strong force for them to deliver the narrative, reach out to women and everybody to justify that their message is right. So religion acts as a tool for them to support their message. But I think also in this sense, religious scholars need to come forward and they need to tell people that whether it's Islam, Hinduism, Christianity, any other religion, that religion is for the equal rights of everyone.TV vans v96 at the Venice Film Festival this weekend.
