In the spring before the new millennium, Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was born in Atlanta. The youngest of his six siblings, he started surfing the web in his early adolescence. At first he used Facebook a lot, then Instagram. He made Vines for a little bit, dabbled on YouTube, and finally got on Twitter. Back then, he wished he had something more substantial than funny tweets to market his internet proficiency. “I was always making memes, and now I have music,” he says about his early foray into content-making.
