I’m used to elected officials, even those who espouse progressive or even radical politics, failing at having difficult conversations about issues disproportionately impacting Black communities. We are not a labor union, a civil rights institution, or even progressive lobbyists with money. We are everyday people, community organizers, and activists who are fighting to make space for Black feminist politics and practices in U.S. politics.
