Fun as it is to watch Max and Eleven kick butt together, their connection feels strongest when they’re just hanging out as friends. This season was particularly redemptive in the way it subverted their once jealousy-ridden relationship. This time, boys didn’t tear them apart, they brought them together. After Mike bails on El and lies to her, she seeks out Max, who takes El under her wing in the best way. In El’s conversations with Max, it’s clear that even though El has sustained a six-month relationship with Mike (which at 15 is very impressive, tbh) she still has a long way to go in her understanding of teen romance. Instead of taking advantage of this vulnerability, Max ensures that El’s introduction to the dating world comes from a feminist perspective. “Dump his ass,” is Max’s go-to advice, which may not be perfect in all scenarios, but it does encourage El to know her worth and hold the men in her life to a higher standard. amd live update every day has felt like a sprint through the trees.
